Join Sarah as she takes you through working with an array of materials to draw and paint still life and botanicals. This class is aimed at beginners who want a taster in drawing or intermediates who want a different take on their creative processes. Sarah's practice blends traditional and non traditional approaches to still life and botanical art - no experience in drawing or painting is required.
Over the course of four sessions, Sarah will guide you through the fundamentals of drawing and painting botanical and still life compositions. You will learn techniques such as accurate observation, shading, line, tone and composition. Each week focuses on different medium with exercises which culminate in a finished artwork.
First session is pencil and charcoal. Focus will be on observation and using greylead and charcoal to create form with line and shading.
Second class is oil and soft pastel. We will be learning blending and pastel application techniques.
Third class is watercolour where we experiment with wet on wet, wet on dry, blending and gradients.
And finally the last session is Indian ink with a emphasis on hue gradients and working tonally.
With a focus on appreciating nature and making time to play, this course makes the beloved style of botanical and still life art accessible to all. The hope is that each participant will find their own way within the classes, and have the confidence to go forward incorporating still life botanical and still life drawing into their daily lives.
